Mildred (Millie to her friends) Trumbo Smart, 90, died
peacefully on December 5, 2009 at her home at
Eden Villa in
Castro Valley, California.
Born on September 24, 1919 to the late Paul and Maude Trumbo
in
Huntington, West Virginia, Millie grew up in the town of
Russell, Kentucky. She graduated from
Russell High School in 1937 and went on to study
interior design at
Lindenwood
College, St. Charles, Missouri. She married the late
Paul Duncan in 1940 and they resided in Russell, Kentucky
until his death in 1945. She then married the late Robert
Smart in 1947 and they relocated to
Huntington, Indiana to begin his career. Twenty-five
years later they retired to
Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. She lived there until
her husband's death in 2008, when she moved to California to
be near her granddaughters. Millie had a special way of filling people's lives with her warm and endearing Southern style and delicate manner. An active member of the Presbyterian Church, Millie served many people in need and had a remarkable calling for bringing members together in fellowship.
She loved spending her days
quilting or playing bridge with her friends. She dedicated
her life to her husband, son and grandchildren, and will be
dearly missed as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Her legacy is the classy gifts and talents that she
instilled in us and will always live in our hearts. Her
good works follow her in the spirit of others she has
touched. |
On July 29th, 2012 Bob and Millie's ashes were co-mingled and scattered near a site where they first met that was very dear to them.
