I have always wanted to design and build my own home. Living in Thailand gave me the opportunity to design several homes. Actually they are little more than dreams put into Microsoft Visio. I was able, however, to actually build two of the homes. Below is a catalog of these designs.

Ahngnam Duplex was
designed and built for Rung's parents and son, Oasa.
The parent's side is just one medium-sized room as is
customary with Thai mountain bamboo homes. Oasa's side
has a small sitting/TV room and a small bedroom. Entry
to both rooms is from a wall-length sliding glass door at
the front. Both rooms share a single bathroom.
Also shared is the separate kitchen as is also customary
with Thai homes, and the large front porch. The original design done in Microsoft Visio can be viewed by clicking the design image at the left. Photos of the completed house can be found on the Photo Album Page. |

Ahngnam Large Home
was designed and build to be Rung's and my home. It is
a two-level, two-bedroom, two-bath home. The ground
level has a spacious two-car open garage/carport, a
half-bath under the front stairs, a large recreation room
with adjoining laundry room, and a secure storage room.
The second level is the main living area. It is
accessed by two outside stairways that lead to a open porch
that wraps around two sides of the house. It only four
rooms: a good sized living room, a master bedroom, guest
bedroom/office, full bathroom with an additional outdoor
shower, and a large kitchen. The open floor plan
allows the living room and kitchen to flow together creating
a feeling of spaciousness. All rooms on the second
floor except the bathroom have high, cathedral ceilings with
hanging fan/light fixtures. The original design done in Microsoft Visio can be viewed by clicking the design image at the left. Photos of this home can be found on the Photo Album Page. |
